The Buzz About Balms

Lip balm? Of course. Hair balm? Sure, but skin balms? It may not be the first balm that comes to mind, but skin care balms are taking the beauty mainstream by storm, and with good reason. Skin balms, body balms, or beauty salves as they were called way back when, were mostly used for cuts and scrapes years ago, but in more recent years they’ve found their rightful place in beauty regimens around the world.

Skin balms are great at keeping your outermost layer of skin moisturized. If your lotion isn’t cutting it when it comes to moisture, especially in the winter months, you’d probably be better off using a balm. They’re ideal for severe dryness and for special areas of the skin that can be especially tough, like your heels and elbows.

A true balm is made with waxes, oils and butters, but zero water. For this reason, they tend to be thicker than lotions. Balms evaporate far more slowly than thinner moisturizers, so your skin has more time to soak in the benefits. Their ability to hold in moisture creates a powerful protective barrier for your skin. The lack of H2O also allows for more beneficial ingredients to be put into one product, making balms natural multitaskers.

A more recent trend in the balm realm is cleansing balms. Not only do they offer long lasting relief for your skin, they’re easy to travel with; another reason to consider trying a cleansing balm. Get through security quick without sacrificing your skin! If a cleansing balm seems like a stretch for you, start off with our Royal Jelly Extra Soothing Balm. It uses the Royal Jelly complex, rich in more than 20 amino acids, Manuka honey, as well as Shea, Cacao and Kokum seed butters to instantly rehydrate your skin and restore softness and comfort.

So the next time you have to replenish your daily body moisturizer, give a balm a shot and see what your skin has been missing!

Color Looks: Summer Shimmer

Summer Shimmer is an earthy, sensual look with rich metallic browns and a strongly lined eye to captivate anyone lucky enough to cross your path. Here’s how it’s done:
1. Start with the High Shine Powder Eyeshadow Single in Bronze Luster, sweeping the center shimmery shade across your lids and stopping just below your brow line.
2. Secure your look and perfect those arches with a little Brow Pomade. Go with Dark Brown, unless it clashes with your skin tone.
3. Bring your gaze to life by applying Cream Eyeliner in Brown along your top and bottom lids.
Tip: To avoid smudging your eyeshadow with your liner or mascara, hold a small piece of plain white paper or card directly behind your lashes, but not touching the eyelid. Avoid tissue paper or anything that can tear or clog. Next, press your lashes firmly against the paper and apply your liner or mascara. Repeat with lower lashes.
4. Finish things off with Full Coverage Lipstick in Brownie. You can transition this look from day to night by switching to a deeper lip color.
Tip: Take the glimmer all the way to your fingertips with our Strengthening Nail Lacquer in Bronze Muse.

The Magic of Multimasking

We all love a good facial mask. They’re a great way to wind down and relax with a quick fifteen minutes of “you” time. This year, masks have evolved in many ways, including fun sheet masks with awesome built-in selfie opportunities and multimasking, the practice of applying multiple masks at the same time to different parts of your face in order to maximize your skin care payoff. It’s common practice to layer your products for the best results when it comes to makeup, so why not make the most of it and multimask? Here are some tips for what mask to put where, depending on your deepest mask desires:
Problem: Dry Skin
Solution: Moisturizing Mask
How it Helps: An oil based mask will help when your skin is dry. If your forehead or the apples of your cheeks could use some extra attention, a thick cream mask will hydrate your skin without clogging your pores. To maintain even more moisture, wipe the excess mask off with a towel instead of rinsing.
Problem: Dark Under-Eye Circles
Solution: Under-Eye Sheet Mask
How it Helps: A sheet mask will help minimize dark circles and puffiness under your eyes. Put your under-eye sheets in the fridge to really intensify the cooling effect.
Problem: Irritated Skin
Solution: Soothing/Calming Mask
How it Helps: Apply a soothing or calming mask to any areas that have been red or irritated. Look for a mask with ingredients like oatmeal and aloe that will bring your skin relief.

Problem: Anti-Aging
Solution: Brightening
How it Helps: If you’re looking for a mask that will give your skin a youth-boost, start with a mask that has exfoliating acids and brightening vitamins. Algae is a key ingredient in some brightening masks as well. Your cheeks and your chin are two good places to focus when it comes to anti-aging. For firmer skin, try a mask with a clay based formula.
Problem: Breakouts
Solution: Detoxifying
How it Helps: Apply a thick layer of charcoal mask to your breakout problem areas. Charcoal masks clear pores of dirt and impurities, so your next pimple never makes it to the surface. Clay masks can also be beneficial for breakouts, like the JAFRA Mud Mask. It has vitamin E and antioxidants that remove excess oils and dead skin cells. The JAFRA Clear Complexion Clarifying Mask is another great option.

Summer Wedding Style 2017

One of the best parts about summer are the romantic weddings that we are invited to attend! Warm weather nuptials are the perfect opportunity to feel feminine and dress up. The rules always stay the same for wedding attire; stay away from white and nothing too short or sexy. This summer season, lady like details dominate from ruffles to floral prints, lace to bare shoulders.  Here is your guide to being summer wedding chic this year.
Beach Wedding
Even with a backdrop like the ocean, you still want to feel polished while walking in the sand. This season, invoke the spirit of carefree romance with a cold-shoulder maxi dress in a floral print. Flowy fabrics like satin and chiffon add movement and vulnerability to this fresh style. Pair this look with a chunky heel or flat sandals to be beach chic and take a pashmina in case the temperature changes. Compliment your look with makeup that lets your beauty shine through with nude tones on your eyes and lips and a warm bronzer on your cheeks.  Finally, finish with a spritz of a romantic, beach-inspired fragrance such as JAFRA’s Nerina.
Evening Semi-Formal or Formal
This summer, for a semi-formal evening look no further than a mid-length, body conscious, black cocktail dress. Ruffles, one shoulder and strapless styles update the look for this season. Accessorize with chandelier earrings, a jeweled clutch and black stilettos, and get ready to dance the night away! If the wedding calls for black tie attire, try a figure hugging, floor length gown in a bold color, such as yellow, orange or even a shimmery metallic shade of silver. The bright colors will give the gown a summer feel while still dressing up to the occasion. Complete your unforgettable look with a luxurious fragrance, such as JAFRA’s Diamond Blush.
Afternoon Wedding
If your invitation sends you to a botanical garden setting or daytime country club, the goal is to look polished and pretty at the same time (think modern princess as an inspiration).  Try a pastel colored, calf-length, lace detail dress or a ruched sheath dress in a delicate floral print. Accessorize the look with pearls, classic pumps and a clutch. For your makeup, try something in a pink hue, like JAFRA’s Full Coverage Lipstick in Classic Pink and blend a pink cream blush like JAFRA’s Cashmere Peony onto your cheeks. Finish your outfit with a romantic, yet sophisticated fragrance. JAFRA’s Paris Et Moi would be perfect.

True Independence

This Independence Day, as Americans celebrate the nation’s founding, when a small group of men with a vision decided to take fate into their hands and found a democracy, why not take a break from flag waving and reflect on the principle? The freedom to do as we wish and be who we are is a fundamental right in our society… a fact that sometimes gets lost in the doldrums of the day to day. However, the opportunity to pursue your own happiness, is always right there waiting should you feel the entrepreneurial spirit. Translation? This Fourth of July, why not think about becoming your own boss…

Here are three things to consider if the idea inspires you… even just a little bit!

The Potential
Every success story starts with passion. And if you’re thinking about going off on your own – taking a risk to earn big rewards (like free time, control over your schedule and of course, money), you need to be passionate about your product. The idea of where it can take you should set off fireworks in your brain – after all, you’re going to have to be excited about it in order to get up and do it everyday – especially in the beginning. So consider carefully what your ideal job would look like and fashion your business around that. A simple example? If you’re a social butterfly bored to tears by an office job, don’t start an insurance agency. Do something that gets you out and around people, capitalizing on your friendly nature!

The Pitfalls
Before the excitement settles you’ll want to pause and take a moment to consider the possible pitfalls on your path to success. It may seem like a downer, but nothing is always simple and smooth and there are bound to be months (especially early on) when you don’t hit your financial goals. How will you deal with the difficult times and keep going until you get to the other side? Knowing what could go wrong won’t prevent it from happening, but it will give you the confidence to know you can handle it because you’ve thought ahead. That brings us to…

The Plan
While you may be dying to tell your current boss to take your job and shove it, you’d be ill-advised to make a leap into an entrepreneurial activity without reasonable plans for the short and long term. Where do you want to be in one month? Six? A year? Five? What are the best and worst case scenarios and how will you handle each. Of course, curveballs are bound to come your way despite all of this planning, but charting your course in the first place helps you to adjust accordingly as it unfolds. The important thing is that you’ve got the map!
